Glenn Carpenter

Our Founder

Glenn Carpenter, born in Woodstock, left his mark on both Fredericton and Saint John. Mr. Carpenter’s passion was to help other people help themselves. He always had a desire to give back to his community and he gave back in many different ways.

Unstoppable Enthusiasm

He established several businesses, holding positions with a number of councils, commissions and sports clubs, as well as extensive work with service organizations such as the YMCA. Mr. Carpenter was a lifelong member of the Y’s Men’s Association and was a member and past president of the Saint John Y’s Men’s Club. He was also a founding president of the Big Brothers, Big Sisters organization in Saint John. Glenn was an avid participant in the Saint John Board of Trade’s business mentoring program. His enthusiasm and unstoppable attitude were infectious. Whether it was a business project, new venture or fundraising activity, you left a meeting with Glenn thinking “Yes, I can do this!”

The Glenn Carpenter Centre

As his last entrepreneurial act, Glenn mobilized his family and supporters to acquire a 220-acre property in the heart of Saint John. Since its opening in 2000, the Glenn Carpenter Centre has benefited thousands of youth in Southern New Brunswick by way of outdoor adventure day camps. The Centre is presently managed by the YMCA of Greater Saint John and has grown to be an accessible, safe, and fun environment for kids in our community each year.
